Victoria's Michelle Ferris booked her ticket to Atlanta by qualifying fastest in the women's sprint at the national track titles in Perth yesterday.
The 1994 junior world champion blitzed her rivals, clocking 11.72s for the 200m.
Her time put paid to any hopes held by NSW rider Julie Speight, competing in the event for the first time since 1992.
Speight, who qualified third fastest in 12.09s, admitted that even if she wins the event, Ferris is still the obvious choice for Olympic selection.
"If it was anyone else but Michelle I might think differently but I believe she deserves every chance and if neither of us are riding times that can get a medal then by all means they should send her," Speight said.
